Cimiart kpop and kdrama fan art anniversary! Plus, Yoon Shi Yoon joins 1N2D!

Vector-5-splendid-fireworksGreetings kpop fan art and kdrama lovers! I’m celebrating my blog anniversary with 210 WordPress and 21 Google+ followers (231 total), and over half a million views! Thanks to all who visit cimiart for recaps, fan art, and Korean language posts. I love that we’re sharing the kdrama experience and encourage you to leave comments that cheer on your favorite romcoms, bromances, sageuks, and melodramas, or spout on about the maddening miscasts and bungled plot holes that kdramas are notorious for. I am grateful for other kdrama bloggers who list cimiart recaps on their sites and direct viewers my way.  And, of course, I couldn’t leave out revlow who has been an invaluable resource in getting my site in shape on the technical end. 감사합니다 (kamsamnida – thank you)! Tell your friends to follow cimiart, too!

Yoon Shi Yoon 1N2D

By the way, did you know that Yoon Shi Yoon has returned from military service and is back on the screen? He is the newest cast member on 1N2D and the main lead in Mirror of the Witch kdrama (fantasy sageuk) that will premiere on May 13, 2016. YSY is best known and loved for his lead roles in King of Baking, Takgu and Flower Boys Next Door. I have a feeling that with his ambition and charming personality he hasn’t hit his high point as an actor, yet. We’re rooting for you, YSY, fighting! \/

coffee and salt

(1N2D warning: don’t drink that coffee/water/milk – it’s been tampered with by your pals – oops, too late! Salt in a drink never grows old and YSY gets fooled how many times in the first episode?! Also, they’re calling YSY by his birth name, Dong Gu, on 1N2D. I’m not sure how I feel about that. )

Watch Yoon Shi Yoon (aka Dong Gu) in his first episode of 1N2D where he promises to stay for two years and cause viewership rating to soar!

  1. Congratulations on the half million views! I someday hope my blog can have that many… 🙂 I wish your blog much more success!

I just posted my first fanart drawing on my blog… Wanna take a look? I’d like you to be the first one to see it. 🙂

  2. Hey Cimi!! Long time no see~~!! Congrats on your thriving blog!

It’s been crazy busy at work, and my backlog of unwatched dramas has reached scary proportions (including MLB) – but that’s where I’ll rely on your recaps!

Were you happy to hear about Ahn Jae Hyun and Gu Hye Sun?

I’m thrilled that our baby YSY is finally discharged from the army and back on our small screens!! I was worried about him doing it tough in the Marines.

I like Kim Saeron too, so I want to check out his new drama, but I will definitely be going back to 1N2D now that YSY is on deck! Contrary to popular opinion, I actually liked Season 2 (Kim Seungwoo’s pointy butt was hilarious and deadly!), but it was probably not the best mix for cast & PD, even though I liked Sung Si Kyung and Joo Won.

Anyway, have a great week, and look forward to more YSY news from this quarter! 🙂

    • Hi thursdaynexxt, it has been a long time, good to hear from you !
The news about Ahn Jae Hyun and gu Hye Sun, hmmm, everyone seems excited. I think he’s awfully young to be getting married but oh well. I wonder if this will lock in a sequel for Blood that will carry on with the Kochenia theme and what happened with the antidotes that were made. Not to mention who was after them in Kochenia. It’s out there anyhoot as a possibility.
YSY as an addition to 1N2D makes me happy. I probably sound like a broken record but he was adorable on Barefoot Friends variety show (which lost direction at the end, but it was still fun). Plus, Mirror of the Witch begins soon – maybe you’ll pick up that kdrama? I’ll post stuff on YSY as we go along – I’m just so glad he made it through military service and is back!
I’m sorry I didn’t recap Vampire Detective, but now that it’s 7 episodes in and db is doing a great job I will have to wait for the next one that inspires me. You sound busy! Don’t forget to squeeze in a little kdrama now and then.

      • Hey Cimi! for some reason, I didn’t get a notification of your response, so sorry for the extremely late reply!

Have been lurking in your 38 Task Force recaps – man, what an epic heist drama! Definitely one of Seo In-Guk’s best! Plus, I loved Ma Dong-Seok in Bad Guys, but he was perfect in this! However, I’ll try and refrain from further squeeing until your Ep 16 recaps are up! 😀

Yes, had a period of *almost* no k-dramas (though I’ve been more into k-pop/rock recently – and YAAAY for FTIsland’s new comeback and wins!!) but got back into the swing of it lately – so many good dramas out now!! But actual drama-watching leaves little time for the other fun stuff, like following recaps.

I did watch Mirror of the Witch – won’t comment on the ending (apart from: “WTF …”) but Kim Saeron was a nice spunky heroine and made a cute pair with our YSY. Don’t think the drama showcased all his talents, but for my 2 cents, I still enjoyed it a lot more than Uncontrollably Bland (as I’ve heard it referred to). No offence to fans of the show: the Woobie charm is undeniable, but when you put it all together, the sum of the parts is … meh. I’ve been totally sucked into the manwha world of W & LJS!!

I enjoyed Barefoot Friends, too (the YSY cuts, anyway), despite having a mild Kang Ho Dong allergy.

      • thursdaynexxt! An epic heist, indeed! We want more, we want more! Will get up that ep 16 recap today sometime 🙂 MotW was good, too. Yoon Shi Yoon is such a sweetie. Are you watching him in 1N2D? It has put a new spark in the team for sure. He is so charming. W has swallowed us all up I fear. There is no going back. It’s been a while since I’ve gone back and rewatched an entire kdrama just to catch things that I might have missed, but W is that kind of drama where you almost have to do that. It is truly two-worldly. “…a mild Kang Ho Dong allergy” – totally agree. *Off to check out FT Island’s new comeback* Speaking of k-music, do you watch I Can See Your Voice?
Oh, and Uncontrollably Bland, just watched Woobie rip out his IV in the hospital like someone does in every kdrama. Yeah, the second lead male is kind of creepy, too. Anyway, *yawn* it’s a sleeper. \/

      • Need to marathon catchup 1N2D – have fallen way behind. It would be good if there was a “YSY cut” version!

I did initially watch I Can See Your Voice for Julien from Abnormal Summit, but also dip into King of Mask Singer and Duet Song Festival from time to time.

Uncontrollably Bland: the only trope missing so far is AMNESIA. I’m sure it will rear its ugly head soon, no doubt. Eul’s actions make no sense. Why run down the Prosecutor? Shouldn’t you be using all your vaunted journalistic investigative skills to find out the driver who actually killed your dad in the first place? The only character I can stand at the moment is her younger bro, Jik. And the kitten.

      • That’s right, Julien was on the first season. There are Korean musicians and singers and a guy who was in the top 10 of one of the seasons of Kpop Star (I think 4). I really like the guest musicians who have to guess, it’s fun. Speaking of Abnormal Summit the only original members who are still a part of the panel are Alberto and Guillaume. It’s different than when it first aired but kind of interesting in that all the panel members are foreigners who speak excellent Korean and are very well educated. As for Uncontrollably Bland, yeah, Eul’s actions are just plain stupid like someone who doesn’t have the ability to reason. In other words, makes her look really dumb. I’m not very impressed with the show.. On the other hand, I am rewatching W this week since it is preempted for the Olympics to catch things I’ve missed along the way. Because of reading subtitles, it is easy to miss stuff. Love this show. I finished recapping 38 Task Force – it is such an emotional investment to recap and there is a feeling of letdown when I’m done. Here’s to season 2! Have a great week, thursdaynexxt!

      • Re W: yes, saw the raw version early this morning and couldn’t wait too get off work, so I could inhale the latest episode! YAAY!!

Abnormal Summit’s line-up has certainly changed a lot, but I’m glad they managed to keep 2 of my fave original reps! I really like Lucky so far, and the on-again off-again tension between him and Zahid is very intriguing!

They keep referring to side trips (which I’m guessing is Where Is My Friend’s Home), and it’s frustrating that there’s no subs for WIMFH these days!!

        Like

      • Yes, Lucky and Zahid have some national pride going on there. I like that the discussions can be serious but they are all good-natured. The German representative is likable, too. Sometimes the French guy is aloof, but all in all the show continues to be an interesting format. WIMYH, yeah, sorry that fell off the sub charts. We sure do rely on those loyal subbers, much appreciated and very much missed, but understandable because of the time commitment. I liked Sandra Park’s topic and the discussion around reality and fantasy/dreams. We know all about that with the world of kdramas!

      • Yes, I’m sooo happy that they picked up subbing AS again!!! I find it still really good, and they’re starting to pick up more recent issues like the Black Lives Matter movement and terrorist attacks. Not to mention, having panelists from places like Switzerland, Pakistan and Mexico is really giving new perspectives to the show – it’s very educational! (my sole reason for watching k-shows and k-dramas, of course)

I liked Eps 109 and 110 a lot – the human rights discussion was good, but they do tend to fall down a bit when talking about women’s rights and gender equality … without a SINGLE WOMAN in the room!! So I was grateful to Lucky for pointing out some of the stuff that was totally being overlooked by the other panelists.

It constantly surprises me how open Alberto is about his vast experience and expertise with the opposite sex – but it certainly balances out some of the other members’ reticence on that front!

Guillaume’s “steak-action” was hilarious (and so typical), as were some of the other mispronunciations on the show. An aside: I never realised Sandara Park wasn’t Korean! She’s such a cutie pie! (and yes, totally relate to the double-edged sword dilemma of k-drama fantasies! Aurelien asking if she was prepared to be solo for life was 100% accurate!)

(PS. sorry for turning this thread into an impromptu OT! I’ll try and rein myself in now!)

      • I double checked because I wasn’t sure – she was born in Korea but grew up in the Philippines, and became famous there first. Then she returned to Korea and signed with YG @ 2007 (she was born in 1984) with 2NE1.
Gosh, maybe I should create a separate Abnormal Summit post, there might be some interest! I agree with you on the interesting and positive direction with the panel addressing immediate concerns. I think Abnormal Summit has found a unique format with foreign Korean-speaking members on its panel. It’s funny how the three MCs often seemed shocked at the different cultural and personal perspectives of non-Koreans.
I love our little OT going on, thursdaynexxt!

      • An AS threat would be fantastic! Could really go into detail about each of the members, topics and guests!

Since not every ep might be recap-worthy, perhaps an OT style would make it more fluid and free for ppl to comment on a bunch of recent eps?

I remember Zhang Yuan coming back from guesting on the Chinese version of AS, and he said the set was HUGE (2 storey) but the conversation got lost amongst too many panellists, and the MCs couldn’t control them! I’m so glad the original program and our Jun-Yoo-Sung MCs are getting rewards and recognition for their great work!

      • Especially after this week with the oddly interesting combination of Imperialist countries’ histories and the corresponding colonized countries and the takes each one has – fascinating. And so knowledgeable! I want to get the name of the Korean historian who has written a huge number of books and take a look at some of them (if they’ve been translated). Anyway, it’s my world current events go-to discussion place these days.

      • Happy weekend! Thanks for this link, Cimi!!

I didn’t know about this show, but with Alberto, Guillaume AND Sam, how could I miss it?!

It was hilarious how Sam picked Korean dishes and the panelists were all fist-pumping, then Guillaume trumped them all with the BBQ party that left everyone salivating! (of course, if they knew Guillaume like we know him, they would have KNOWN that he’d pick a meat dish, with a side of meat, followed by more meat!!) That yukke beef, though … looked so delicious … (it’s harder and harder to get it here, since they’re cracking down on restaurant standards, and most places just don’t want to bother 😦 )

I did want to try Sam’s dishes (but not the soy milk egg drink, yuck!) Alberto’s is a perfect casual choice (love carpaccio too), and I liked the BGM during his segment – reminded me of an Italian singer I really like: Vinicio Capossela.

All in all, my drama list is pretty full right now, so reality shows tend to take a back seat (though I want to watch 1N2D, Running Man, Masked Singer, Hit the Stage, Suspicious Vacation … the list goes on). What are your favourite shows atm?

        Like

      • Hi thursdaynexxt,
I also thought anyone who knows Guillaume would guess it would be beef, beef, and beef although I would have chosen Sam’s without the yucky drink, too. Also, Julian just joined Real Men (the latest episode). Good luck with that!
I’m watching W, C4K, UF (not sure why, I think I’ll just see how it ends), Moonlight (Bo Gum, yay!). For k-entertainment I always like Immortal Songs 2, Infinite Challenge, 1N2D, I Live Alone, WGM (again, not sure why but I do like Jota this round), Masked Singer, LofJ, I Can See Your Voice, Happy Together, and Hello Counselor. Oh, and Abnormal Summit, of course. Somehow I seem to squeeze in 2 or 3 hours most evenings to get it all in. It’s my R&R after busy days. i hardly watch any other TV, maybe Ninja Warriors and I loved Downton Abbey, but kdramas have taken over. Wish I could get in more kpop fan art, though.
Hmmm, I don’t know a couple that you mentioned – Hit the Stage or Suspicious Vacation. Are they good?

I am losing patience with Cinderella 4 Knights, even though Il Woo is a fav or mine, but gosh, those chaebols are so rich and so idle!

        Like

      • Those C4K boys … yes, talk about first world problems! I still think JIW will be the endgame, but I’ll enjoy AJH giving him a run for his money!

I’m also watching Moonlight (PBG is a must!! I look at him and at LJS in W, and think, “how can a guy be so pretty and hot at the same time?!)

I thought about taking up WGM again, for Eric Nam (loved him in After School Club), and I watch Hello Counselor if I like a panel guest (and sometimes just to remind myself that I’m pretty normal, compared to some of the people who appear on that show!!)

I do follow some k-pop (although maybe it’s more k-indie and k-hip hop) – watching Hit the Stage is a bit like the idol dance version of Masked Singer – there’s some really powerful dancers, and they case showcase different themes and concepts every time, dancing with other idols that they’d normally never share a stage with.

Suspicious Vacation is kinda like Youth Over Flowers (minus the kidnapping by evil Na PD) combined with Celebrity Bromance (except there’s girls too). Some noteworthy pairings have been MBLAQ’s Mir and our Roommate homie Park Joon Hyung (of G.O.D), as well as Misaeng Asst Managers Oh Min Seok and Jun Suk Ho! I’d definitely recommend a peep!

        Like

      • You’ve sold e on Suspicious Vacation with Mir Joon Hyung and maybe I’ll even take a look at Hit the stage. I tried Boys24 because I liked Dancing 9 a lot, but it’s pretty much tryouts for a new boy group. Eric Nam is fun on WGM and so is Jota, but the overall theme of WGM if iffy to begin with. Ah, well. Started a weekend kdrama – Gentlemen/Tailors is the short version of the title, but I am still unsure if I can keep up with the length (and story). The start of a new week – have a good one!

There are more drawings in my Art Gallery – Fan Art by Cimi drop menu at the top of cimiart. I am trying out Deviantart – it seems like I’ll have to figure out my way around on it as there are so many groups and content areas. Kdramas can lead to all sorts of interesting tangents. Who knew? 🙂
