My Beautiful Bride 아름다운 나의 신부 ~ Ep 3
Knowing these double names will help keep the story straight: Yoon Joo Young’s former name is Yoon Joo Hee; Park Joon Beom’s legal name is Park Tae Gyu.
Do Hyung’s trunk, or rather, its contents, has become the focus of a crime investigation. The tattoo on Song Hak Soo’s shoulder is Joo Young, the one he claimed as his woman. The question is, “Why is Song Hak Soo in Kim Do Hyung’s trunk?”
Song Hak Soo left prison one day before Yoon Joo Young went missing. The police think Do Hyung must have gone after Song Hak Soo in a rage. A 10 cm blade scar and dry ice under the corpse indicate that it’s a professional job. It’s time to interrogate Do Hyung. He is no ordinary bank employee, but a Marines UDT and the boyfriend of the missing woman.
Do Hyung asks Yoon Mi, “The dead man, who is he?” She takes charge, “You tell me. What is your relationship to that man? I can only help you if you tell me the truth.” Do Hyung says he’s never seen him before. He maintains that he didn’t kill that man. The police have 48 hours to find evidence and hold Do Hyung as a suspect. After talking with people at his apartment and work, the police turn up nothing unusual. In fact, they only confirm that Do Hyung was intensely private and his only flaw was being “too perfect.”
In order to move the investigation along, Yoon Mi fills Do Hyung in on Song Hak Soo’s background: a problem solver in the underground world of loan sharks with a connection to Yoon Joo Young. He was arrested three years ago and got out a week ago on parole.
Flashback: Joo Young and Do Hyung meet in the rain. It wasn’t their only encounter, however. On a drunken binge two days before he enlists in the army, Do Hyung bumps into Joo Young on the street and throws up all over her. His friends apologize for his behavior. They end up in a room…He wakes up and offers to pay her for her time and asks her to stay longer. She plays the role and takes the money, although nothing happened, tells him his time is up. To her, he isn’t a client but her first love. Her name back then was Joo Hee. Two days later: Dressed in his military uniform he leaves to enlist. His only thoughts are, “there is someone I want to impress.” It was a chance encounter with lasting effects.
Do Hyung’s story has holes. He is very hard to read. Yoon Mi tells him she can’t trust him.
CCTV footage shows Song Hak Soo going to the bank where Do Hyung works, making one phone call, and leaving. Yoon Mi’s sixth sense tells her the two of them met. She follows leads and, filling in the gaps, surmises that they met up and sat face to face at a table in a restaurant. Yoon Mi confronts Do Hyung with the information she’s found out, and wants to know what he and Song Huk Soo talked about, and why he and Joo Young both received a phone call from the same number before she went missing.
She lays it out a scenario for Do Hyung: He met Song Hak Soo at 6:30 p.m. Hak Soo called Joo Young from a burner phone. Joo Young left home at 7:30 p.m. He followed Hak Soo and witnessed him meeting with Joo Young. He became uncontrollably mad and killed Song Hak Soo. At the thought of it, Yoon Mi goes berserk and grabs Do Hyung by the collar, yelling, “You killed Joo Young because you found out her past. I bet you thought it was disgusting. Your pride was damaged, Where’s Joo Young?” Hyeong Sik has to pull her off calm her down. He turns to Do Hyung and tells him he’s done for. Do Hyung is shaken.
Yoon Mi is feeling mighty guilty for asking Joo Young for that favor back then. If she hadn’t, none of this would have happened.
Park Tae Gyu aka Park Joon Beom, is released. On his way out, Yoon Mi stops him, shows him a picture of Joo Young, and asks if he knows her. He says he never heard of her. Just how is this lowly creepster involved?
There’s a new face in the underworld, Seo Jin Gi (our handsome Ryu Seong Soo). He calls Park Tae Gyu from the warehouse office. There’s been a change of guard – Park’s boys are on the floor and a new line-up of goons in suits are in command. I have to say it’s an improvement in the loan shark world. Seo Jin Gi tells his boys to shut up Park when he arrives. I look forward to it.
Hyeong Sik continues to interrogate Do Hyung: CCTV shows Joo Young in the elevator. It was the last time she was seen. Do Hyung arrives at the apartment at 7:57 p.m., after she leaves. At 8:17 p.m. he drives out the apartment. He is not seen for three days, reports Joo Young missing on day four, and returns to the apartment. CCTV shows him carrying in the crib. The question remains, what was Do Hyung doing for three days? He maintains that he was looking for Joo Young.
Hyeong Sik’s version of what happened: When Do Hyung found out that Joo Young left home, he called Song Hak Soo. Do Hyung denies that he’s ever talked to Hak Soo. Hyeong Sik tells him to stop lying; there is a record of 10 calls between them that day. As a trained UDT assassin, he killed Hak Soo easily, and tried to get rid of the corpse for three days. With the body in the trunk, he put on a good show and reported Joo Young missing, and brought home a crib. It was unlucky, however, that he got pulled over for drunk driving, and got caught with the body in the trunk.
Do Hyung: I didn’t kill Song Hak Soo.
Hyeong Sik: Where’s Yoon Joo Young? Think about the unborn baby. did you bury her somewhere? Why didn’t you bury Song Hak Soo with her? Ah, you didn’t want them buried together. There’s plenty of evidence. You can’t get out of here.
Do Hyung: I need to get out to find Yoon Joo Young.
Flashback: Do Hyung gets a phone call on the way to pick up the chicken. Song Hak Soo calls him from the bank lobby and tells him he is Yoon Joo Young’s friend. Or, should he say her husband? Do Hyung and Song Hak Soo sit across from each other in a restaurant. Hak Soo tells him he saw him in a picture with Joo Hee – the name he calls her. He wonders if she’s happy after running away from him. “Go and tell her I know everything,” he says. Do Hyung slips him a fat envelope and tells him that Joo Young better never find out they met. Song Hak Soo promises to tell Do Hyung all about him another time, they’ll meet again. There is something they need to do together. Do Hyung’s stone face -daebak! He picks up the chicken…
Hyeong Sik heads to Do Hyung’s apartment and breaks in without a warrant. He discovers blood on the in front of the refrigerator and frantically calls Yoon Mi, “That bastard, he must have killed Yoon Joo Young at home.”
- This is a very well-developed story. Who the heck is Kim Do Hyung? He is a mystery man extraordinaire – I must know more! Good guy or bad guy? Or bad guy turned good guy? I’m always up for a former Marine UDT /mundane bank manager to show his true colors. Fighting!
- Song Hak Soo, brought back to life in flashbacks, can stay in that trunk for all I care.
- I’m liking Hyeong Sik, Yoon Mi’s former partner who has stepped up to the plate now that the case has to do with their big bust three years ago.
- We only saw Ryu Seung Soo (Seo Jin Gi) in a teaser cameo this episode, but I can promise you that I’m looking forward to seeing more of him on the screen.
- As intricate as the story is, I really don’t have any questions as to what is going on. Credit for that goes to good writers and producers; going from A to B may not be a straight line, but I have confidence that we will get there, eventually.
- Is My Beautiful Bride keeping you on the edge of your seat, too?
