Blood 블러드 episode 8
blood 8 recap Park Ji Sang, Yoo Rita, Lee Jae Wook, Leader Suh quarantine patientJee Jae Wook warns Leader Suh not to make any more mistakes

Patient Gong Ja Bok is in bad shape and placed in quarantine at the Director’s orders based on the fake blood test results from the New Drug Research Team. The Director takes the patient’s care out of the hands of Dr. Park and assigns the ID team and the Drug Research Team to handle the unidentified virus. Dr. Park, Dr. Yoo, Dr. Jung, and Dr. Choi meet in the hematology lab to discuss the suspicious results for patient Gong. They disagree that it is a virus and are certain the blood test results are fake. Dr. Jung suspects that an unrecorded medication was given to him and he had a reaction. He learns that Dr. Park is leaving and asks him to consider staying. He believes they are on the verge of uncovering something big. The patient is stabilized by Leader Suh to cover what she’s been up to. Director Wook is unhappy with the attention her carelessness has caused and leans in and whispers, “Please allow me to keep my promise I made to you. If you make one more mistake…the promise is revoked.” A vague threat is still a threat. Not that I’m looking out for the likes of Leader Suh.

blood 8 recap Rita and Chairman Yooblood 8 recap Dr Park and the girl in the hallway

When Uncle Chairman discusses the unsettling events in Ward 21A that have occurred in the past week – a discharged patient dying in a car accident and a patient in quarantine – the Director smoothly blames the patients’ past histories and poor screening. Uncle Chairman runs into Ri Ta who asks for a few minutes of his time. She mentions the New Drug Research Team, but he immediately cuts her off and asks if the Associate Director put her up to this. They argue over the New Drug Team’s unprecedented access to patients and the Director’s authority. He is agitated and tells her not to bring this up again or she will face disciplinary action. Uncle Chairman takes his frustration out on Assistant Director Choi. He suspects she is causing dissension among the doctors over the Director’s authority. He hits below the belt when he tells her she has been compensated well at Taemin and she shouldn’t be greedy. She is alarmed that the trust they’ve had over the years is corroding quickly with the Director around. Dr. Park, whose last day is at the end of the week,  makes final rounds to visit his patients in Ward 21A. He comforts the young daughter of the liver cancer patient who cries because her father’s one wish is to walk her down the aisle. She feels bad because she thinks he is holding on and is in pain because of her. Dr. Park checks on Sister Sylvia. They have a conversation about life and death. Sister expresses no fear of dying, and tells him that death is the great equalizer and it is all in His hands.

blood 8 recap Dr. Yoo and Dr Park talk in hallway about him leavingblood 8 Ji Sang, Hyun Woo, LUUVY

Feisty patient Na Jung throws her food tray across the room and says she will starve to death. Ga Yeon wants to bring her a new tray, but Do. Yoo tells her there will be no food or water, if that’s how she wants it. At the nurses’ station, they discuss Na Jung’s sad story: her parents died, Child Services took her in, and now she has cancer and doesn’t want to live. Ga Yeon chases after Dr. Yoo and asks if she really is going to starve Na Jung. Dr. Yoo tells her to bring her something that smells yummy from the cafeteria. Is there a jealous streak in Dr. Yoo when she tells Ga Yeon not to so easily approach her superior, Dr. Park? It is unconscionable that the Director is planning to use young Na Jung in the experiments. However, to lower suspicion of the New Drug Research Team, he tells Leader Suh to proceed with normal treatment for now. When Leader Suh asks why, he tells her to just do as he says. As Dr. Yoo preps for surgery Dr. Park looks on. She follows him into the hall and asks if she should throw him a good-bye party with just her in attendance. She has something she wants to hear from him and something to say to him. He tells her there is nothing he wants to say or hear. After he leaves, there is no reason to see or know anything about each other. Hyun Woo has more questions about the Director (don’t we all). He asks Ji Sang where they will go now that he is quitting. LUUVY spews all sorts of useless information about the Ukraine and Venezuela. But Ji Sang has changed his mind and says he is not leaving Korea or the hospital. ( Hyun Woo’s has on a Keep Calm sweatshirt, how adorable.

blood 8 recap Jee Jae Wook, vampire, Suhblood 8 recap Ji Sang asks for blood supply

Lee Jae Wook has a cozy conversation in his apartment with Leader Suh and a vampire goon he’s kept around. He reveals Ji Sang’s most unique quality is that he is the only infected one who was born from two infected parents. Over the past 40 years, Dr. Wook performed experiments to fertilize infected eggs and sperms (gadzooks, things are getting even darker) and failed. Because Ji Sang survived, he represents the mutation of the virus that is stronger and still evolving. His phone rings. It is Park Ji Sang. He stops by the apartment and Ji Sang tells the Director he needs blood – just enough to control his symptoms so that he can finish treating his current patients before he leaves. The Director is pleased. Have no fear, it was all a ruse to get blood so that Hyun Woo can run tests. There is another development – the Kochenia information is back up on the hospital database. Dr. Park enters the hematology lab looking for Dr. Jung, but he is out of the office. He is about to leave when he is shocked to see the Kochenia gravesite pictures sticking out of a folder. He asks Dr. Choi to get him some coffee so he can sneak a peek. It is curious that the Kochenia information is back up on the database at the same time he discovers copies of the gravesite pictures in Dr. Jung’s lab.

The surgery for which Dr. Park supposedly drank blood in order to be able to perform is about to start. The Director hightails it down to the observation gallery eager to watch Dr. Park in surgery. He is shocked when Dr. Yoo steps up as the surgeon and tells him Dr. Park has enteritis. The Director marches down to Dr. Park’s office and says he assumes he did not drink what he gave him yesterday. Forcing a calm demeanor, he tells Dr. Park that he hopes he will come to see him as his ally who is helping him accept the natural way of life as an infected one. Dr. Park is more uneasy than ever.

blood 8 recap Dr Yoo performs surgery for Dr Parkblood 8 recap Dr Park thanks Dr Yoo for surgery

Dr. Park owes Dr. Yoo for performing the surgery. To her amazement, he thanks her, and says he will repay her. She asks him if he can tell her what is going on, and although there is a moment where it seems he might confide in her, he leaves it at that and walks out. Assistant Director Choi meets with a reporter. She counts on their longstanding friendship to ask a favor. She has confidential information that may result in whistle blowing. Without telling Uncle Chairman, she sends filesthat provide information on the recent events in Ward 21A.

blood 8 recap Dr Yoo tells her story to Dr Park over dinnerblood 8 recap Dr Yoo tells Dr Park about being saved from wild dogs

With no apologies, Dr. Yoo brings a farewell fast food dinner for her and Dr. Park. She shares the story about a local boy who rescued her from wild dogs back then. Everyone told her she imagined it, that she’d had a head injury. For some reason she thought he might believe her. There were ten wild dogs, she begins. Right away, Dr. Park says that doesn’t sound right. The boy came flying out of nowhere, she continues. He must have jumped 30 meters. Dr. Park corrects her, and says it would be more like five meters. She tells him to listen-she is telling the story-the boy didn’t see normal. He was something like a vampire, pale and strong. Dr. Park, wanting to seem aloof, nonchalantly replies it sounds like a dream. Dr. Yoo pays no attention and says the boy killed the wild dogs. Then finishing the story, she wonders, “While looking at me lovingly, did he kiss my cheek and say I was pretty?” to which Dr. Park sprays his drink everywhere and sputters, “K-kiss?” One last thing, that was the day her parents passed away, she says, just like he found out in her background check. Caught! (Naturally, Dr. Choi told Dr. Yoo that he asked about her parents.) After telling him her dream-like real memories, she sends him off to pack since tomorrow is his last day. He tells her that he’s not leaving after all. She scolds that he should have said something earlier (so she wouldn’t have bought dinner). Dr. Park enters Dr. Jung’s lab and confronts him about the Kochenia gravesite pictures. Dr. Jung is clearly shocked when Dr. Park’s asks him if he put the information on the database and doesn’t know what he is talking about. When Dr. Park demands an answer to why Dr. Jung is researching the Kochenia gravesite, Dr. Jung volleys back that it is he who should be suspicious of Dr Park. Their conversation is interrupted by a call from Dr. Yoo.

blood 8 recap vampire kills patientblood 8 recap Park Ji Sang gets hit by truck

The Director and Leader Suh discuss what to do about the patient in quarantine. They decide to release him (read: kill him). She tells patient Gong to get something to eat, and walks him outside. He is in a stupor, no doubt the effect of whatever she injected into his IV just before she helps him out the back door of the hospital. Poor patient Gong doesn’t stand a chance. Dr. Yoo happens to see him wandering, but he shoves her to the ground when she tries to restrain him. She calls Dr. Park. Patient Gong shuffles along like a zombie when suddenly a vampire strangles him and throws into the path of – you guessed it – the truck of doom. (That’s the second vampire/truck of doom death attempt, not very imaginative.)

blood 8 recap Dr Park gets hit by truckblood 8 recap Dr Park and Dr Yoo

Dr. Park comes out of nowhere, vampire strength tosses the patient out of harm’s way, and is struck face on by the truck. The vampire’s mission has failed. Dr. Yoo sees everything from the sidelines.

  • Blood episode 8 recap made possible by a pot stickers lunch (it was so-so), and a cod, couscous, and bok choy dinner (quite tasty)!
  • Dr. Park’s ice-cold heart is warming up to his patients to the ire of our increasingly evil Director. (gulp child experimentation and that other stuff? shiver)
  • Hyun Woo works day and night on behalf of Ji Sang’s existence. They would have met after Ji Sang’s mother died, because we know he didn’t have any friends or outside human interaction. With Hyun Woo’s medical background, perhaps they attended medical school together, but that doesn’t answer the question of why Hyun Woo is exclusively devoted to Ji Sang.
  • I love the frank, confiding way Ri Ta told her dream-like real story to Ji Sang. He acted unconcerned, but polite, and unconsciously corrected the exaggerations of her account. (“Ten wild dogs? That doesn’t sound right,” and “K-kiss?” sputter, sputter. How cute.) It takes a strong and confident person to hold on to her story even though no one ever believed her. She knows what she knows. I like that.
  • Pa-leez, not a second truck of doom. Let’s see, that’s one cliff, two trucks of doom, and heaven only knows how many vampire blunders – it is a bit ridiculous, but then again, that’s the curse and the charm of kdramas.
  • Uncle Chairman’s lack of accountability (that falls on him, completely) will be the downfall of Taemin. I admire the courage of Assistant Director Choi for taking steps to blow the whistle, as she put it, in light of the fact that any attempt she has made to open the Chairman’s eyes has resulted in reprimands and insults, at best. He has closed the door to all sense and reason and put everyone and everything at risk.
  • Dr. Jung keeps himself out of the politics while he finds his own paths of access. He doesn’t play games and keeps a low profile which serve him well.
  • I still think there are too many patients and side stories to keep track of. I just want more LUUVY and more vampire action.

  1. Oooo that cod and couscous dinner looks really yummy.

That ending, ah the poor patient would still be suffering some pretty serious injury being thrown off by Ji Sang into the air and landing maybe 5 feet away and must all patient be rid off by a truck of doom, like you said Cimi, come on hoodie vampire hench man, be more creative…….on another note, hurray for Rita’s discovery of Ji Sang’s vampiric nature, though she would prolly have a minor melt down processing what she saw.

Ji Sang calling the intern doc a rare species of insect, isnt that a compliment???? He even smiled at her!!! That little fox intern, she seems meek but could she be the person Director Evil was talking to about Ji Sang in his house? Poor Rita confronting the intern and saying when she was an intern, she could not even looked at her Chief let alone giving him fish cake on a stick…hahaha. The whole scene where Rita recounted her story of being saved by the Superboy, Ji Sang correcting facts of her story and sputtering his drink at the kiss thing lol. Though it was miles away from the mood when Rita was asking Ji Sang about throwing him a farewell party…Ji Sang can be very, very cold sometimes. Still no romance yet on Ji Sang’s part.

I am glad Ji Sang doesnt trust Director Evil. There is obviously more to the serum than the Director is giving away. Jean Luz have already pointed out in the previous ep comments that the infection he gives himself is severe and should weaken him and it was addressed in this episode as well by Hyun Woo (yayy more Hyun Woo time please). Cant wait to see the result of Hyun Woo’s analysis of the reprocessed blood. Ok, so we are given a glimpse of why the Director is obsessed with Ji Sang being a stronger mutation of the virus, but what does he exactly plan to do with him??? The Director planning on using children as guinea pigs??? WHAT?? Isnt what spurred him on on this crazy mission the death of his young girl patient?

I cant wait for Ji Sang, Rita and Dr Jung to be on the same page and start working together to take down Director Evil Lee.

    • …and add Hyun Woo to that group, too. He is so easy going. What is his story, anyhoot? Hope we get to find out something about him one of these days. I’m pretty sure it was Leader Suh at the Director’s house and not Cha Yeon. For some reason, I don’t have my antennae up about her like you do – I just haven’t picked up a sneaky vibe. On the other hand, I can’t read her, either. So her motive remains to be seen as well. Hmmmm, so many mysterious persons hanging around.

      • Hai Cimi,
I think i was more worked up by the fact that Ji Sang called Cha Yeon ( so that’s her name, i forgot) a rare insect and smiled at her, i feel for Rita.

Dont think we would be seeing Hyun Woo and Ji Sang’s back story any time soon or prolly ever, i have given up on that.

    • Hello everyone…
It’s Ga yeon, isn’t it? Intern Min’s name. Min Ga Yeon. wait a sec. (…googling…) Yep, it’s Ga Yeon.
The insect comment had this sort of warm feeling about it (and I didn’t like it. I was like ,’You. Go die.’ Even I felt jealous, no wonder Ri Ta acted like that.) XD Hahaha. Specking of Ri Ta’s reaction, she’s so adorable. She’s obviously pissed off (and jealous), hiding it with excuses and failing miserably. Her expressions made me grin like an idiot. (About Min Ga Yeon, honestly I don’t like girls like her who has an attitude like hers. The insect comment was made by PJS to show his acknowledgement that that type of attitude is gradually getting instinct. Yep, he’s complimenting her. But girls like her in real life and in some books that I’ve read and dramas that I’ve seen, they seem sincere yet suspicious. They always seem to look like they have a hidden agenda. Like a juicy red apple with a rotten core… ok, maybe that’s too much. She just looked annoying to me in this episode, like a fly I want to swat and that’s maybe I’m hating on her a lot in this comment. But that’s just my bias.)
I agree with you guys about the vampire goon (his name is J (yep, one letter only and the ‘leader’ one whom he refers to as ‘Hyung’ is named Nam Chul Hoon *stops abruptly *confused I thought they were real brothers.) Well anyway, killing two patients from the same ward consecutively with the same tactic is not a good plan. People might make connections later. Aen’t they worried. Oh well. You see, in Korea, the most reports that the police gets is ‘Car Accident’. Maybe they backed themselves up with that. If a normal person asks ‘How did he die?’ and you answer ‘Car accident’, the person will reply ‘oh’ and won’t ask too many questions (except perhaps extremely nosy people). Car accident is the type of accident that people tend to overlook and it’s probably a safe method for them because the death of the person is caused by the ‘truck of doom’ as Cimi called it.

      • So that’s why there are so many car accidents like it’s a common occurrence in kdramas. I borrowed truck of doom from master recappers at dramabeans, heh.

        Like

      • Yep. I think that explains it. Actually, I think it’s a very common accident, not just in Korea but in many other countries as well. A… It makes me feel scared and I keep on thinking, ‘When I do get my driver’s license, should I drive?’ I don’t think I can handle the rough roads…
‘Truck of doom’ does sound very suitable… 😀

  2. Hi January, cimi
The intern is pretty and innocent looking but her story about her mother seems geared to make dr park identify with her…
And yes I can’t stand dr park smiling at her and calling her rare. The way she approaches him – telling him she worries for the people she loves and respects is just too obvious. I would not dare to say that to a guy – hmmmm ok maybe I should learn a thing or two from miss ga yeon

      • Totally agree with you. I wanted to pull her hair. Even in school, when a senior approaches, there’s that wall that you shouldn’t venture in and yet there’s her acting too close and decorating the gesture with pretty words.

  3. I watched the story-telling scene about five or six times, then I switched to watch other videos on my laptop and found myself going back again to Blood ep8 to watch that particular scene. hahaha
What made this scene more hilarious to me are these.
    1. Park Ji Sang contradicting the 10 wild dogs and 30 feet jump and the look in his face when Ri Ta told him to just listen and how would he know about it is very cute. Little Chae Yeon obviously deluded herself and edited her memories to her liking.
    2. Ri Ta looked really serious about the ‘while looking at me lovingly… Did he say I was pretty and kissed my cheek?’ line. It didn’t look like she was joking at all.
    3. Did you notice how the coke/juice or whatever he’s drinking went down from Park Ji Sang’s straw after hearing the ‘while looking at me lovingly’ line? XD It cracked me up that it was shown so vividly. The change in his facial expression is just so adorable. 😀
    4. The spraying of the drink got me laughing out loud. ‘Kiss?’ he says. ‘Kiss.’ he seemed to want to confirm if he heard right. Ri Ta nodding her head in confirmation was funny.
    5. Acting nonchalant while saying ‘Keep going. Keep going.’ hahaha Ji Sang, you’re too obvious. XD He obviously wanted to know how the heck this girl altered her memories for her own satisfaction.
Well, she did held onto him and that memory for 21-22 years. It’s bound to change. And Ri Ta thinks that she’s drop-dead gorgeous ans so maybe that high pride contributed to how she changed that certain memory. 😀

  4. Hi cimi, jean, January,
I love all your thoughts. I confess – I totally committed the same crime of rewinding the scene.

    – he’s got this cutest look on his face at the remark of 10 dogs. Perhaps he was taking pride in the hero worship

    – and oh I only noticed his stunned look at the statement of ..”looking at me lovingly”
I didn’t see the coke went down the straw” …hahahahh …
I bet his mind was spinning … Ho! Was I that obvious?”…or “Was I that HOT?”
I am just kidding, I think poor ji sang was totally taken aback by her crush

    – his reaction at the kiss was really hilarious … You’d think with his moody and cold personality, nothing would ever startle him

    – and hmmm was he blushing when he asked kiss kiss? I think his mind was going “did I perhaps kiss her? ….

    – Keep going keep going… he seemed to be enjoying the story much to his own amazement!!!

    – While I think both of them totally owned the scene, Rita was especially cool and cute in this scene. She must have played the incident again and again in her mind for more than 20 years and it’s lovely that she added parts that made her feel loved and beautiful.

    • Hahaha He was panicking at the first ‘Kiss?’ more composed at the next and yep I think he’s blushing a bit… XD
Yeah… I agree with you. Just imagine how lonely she was to replay that scene in her head for such a long time.
“it’s lovely that she added parts that made her feel loved and beautiful.” Yep, Shuerei, I agree 100%. Since the death of her parents, the ‘love’ that she had been constantly getting suddenly disappeared. She looked for that love in the dream-like Oppa that saved her. And it just dawned to me, ‘Your parents were desperately looking for you in the wounds and they fell off a cliff.’ That’s what they said to young Chae Yeon. The poor thing must’ve blamed herself to death. If only she didn’t chase after that bunny and separated from her parents, they shouldn’t have died. She must have had that thought. ‘Having no warning or such that you would have to let go and having to let go otherwise’ I know I haven’t got the line right, but I can’t remember. Well, she just meant that it was so sudden. She didn’t even had a chance to see her parents for one last time. Their death caught her off-guard, but she has to accept and let go despite the unfairness of it all…

  5. The big difference between Rita and Ga Yeon:
    1. Rita was antagonistic to ji sang while Ga Yeon was already displaying hero worship at the start
    2. Rita was like “he loves me” while Ga Yeon is trying her best to show “I love you”
    3. Rita always act defensive or casual around him and ga Yeon was always trying to flirt with him in an innocent way…
Do u think ji sang would be more attracted to ga Yeon?

    Like

    • Honestly, I think no. He approaches her like a ‘hoobae’ (junior) and pretty much like a ‘dongsaeng’ (younger sibling)… He seem to overlook her comments like ‘the people that I respect and love’, take note of that ‘love’, (a sly gesture masked in an innocent way of delivery, yep, my bias again). See how he doesn’t react to those comments. I think she will remain being a ‘hoobae’ and a ‘dongsaeng’ in his eyes…

  6. Hai everyone,

Oh Shuerei, I sure hope not, dont think i can stand it if Ji Sang is really more attracted to Ga Yeon. Ughhh…he’ s just a typical man then (acting nice just because a girl flirts with him), and he’s not is he, errr.. he’s a vampire. Hmmm..please excuse my lame attempt at a joke.

Seriously though, i dont get why he is being cold to Rita still sometimes. I think both you and I and Jean Luz have agreed that we hate Ga Yeon. I hope that the next episode can give us and Rita some consolations and move the romance of the lead actors along. Yes, we know Ji Sang cares about Rita but does he feels more than that? The drama still havent shown us that.

So the hoodie vampire hench man name is J and his hyung is Nam Chul Hoon, thanks Jean Luz. I was kinda hoping there would be conflict between these two, seeing as J tried to outrank Hoon in episode 2 or was it episode 3. It was when J was pummeling one of the now deceased vampire hench man who was caught drinking fresh blood by Director Lee. Anyone remembered that scene? Both J and Hoon are wayyyy underused. Like Hyun Woo.

    Like

    • Yep, I remember that scene. ‘Just when did you start giving me orders?’ or such from Chul Hoon with a serious face… You made me smirk at the ‘hate’ thing… I haven’t realized I already hate her this much. hahaha
Well, in my eyes, characters like Park Ji Sang are the type of lead guys who resort to pushing the girl they like away from them because they’re dangerous. ‘Don’t get entangled with me. I don’t want you to get hurt.’ Like that. A… So romantic. XD
I remember a line from an anime somewhere, I think it’s Gakuen Alice, where Natsume Hyuuga said ‘Don’t get closer to the dark.’ with the ‘dark’ pertaining to himself. I love these characters. 😀

    • I think J is starting to be greedy… It did seem like he wants to outrank Chul Hoon and the fact that Chul Hoon is still more trusted by the Director in comparison to him must upset him a lot. I do think there will be conflict in the future if J will take his greed into action.

      Like

      • Jean Luz, i dont get why J would want to be Director Lee’s top man, all Hoon does seems to be standing next to the Director listening to his yapping about his obsession with Dr Park, hahaha i’m joking of course 🙂

‘Dont get closer to the dark’ ohhh i like the sound of that and obviously the girl will be more determine to get closer just like Rita.
