Yoon Shi-yoon sings Grandpa’s Bicycle

Yoon Shi-Yoon, grandpa's bike

Adorable flower boy Yoon Shi-yoon is off to the Marines for the next two l-o-n-g years (read all about it on dramabeans at http://www.dramabeans.com/2014/04/yoon-shi-yoon-enlists-quietly-in-marine-corps/ )

Shi-yoon commented that he’s often remembered only for his leading role in King of Baking, Kim Tak-Goo. But kdrama lovers adore his high-strung gamer character, Enrique Geum, in Flower Boy Next Door and, more recently, Kang In-ho in The Prime Minister and I.

Yoon Shi-yoon was also a regular on Barefoot Friends, a variety show that had low viewer ratings. But I watched all 31 episodes! The cast members embarked on loosely defined outdoor experiences that I found somewhat entertaining (the often slow pace and rambling mission direction were editing issues, in my opinion). This drawing is from Shi-yoon’s “My Story My Song” performance titled “Grandpa’s Bicycle.” It is a nostalgic song about riding to school on the back of his grandpa’s bike.

Catch Yoon Shi-yoon’s performance here: http://vimeo.com/72751932. You can watch episode 18 (14:00) of Barefoot Friends for YSY’s song, and watch all the cast members’ performances. For the record, I totally ship Yoon Shi-yoon and Juniel (she is the accompanist in this song).

English Translation Lyrics of Grandpa’s Bicycle

It’s still clear
In my young eyes
In the world’s most productive town
I always slept in and was late
My grandma is scolding me again
But my heart was light
Because my grandpa’s bicycle would save me
When I leaned on his back
It felt like I had wings

I want to close my eyes and go back
To those times, to that day
Riding my grandpa’s bicycle
Sometimes I want to escape
Even in my dreams and reality
Riding my grandpa’s bicycle

I’m facing a familiar scene once again
The super market is a treasure island for kids
The Hong grandma’s small theater with the only video in town
The late rooster’s cry
The old and crowded stationery store
Putting behind the late students, I see
The slightly wet back of my grandpa

I want to close my eyes and go back
To those times, to that day
Riding my grandpa’s bicycle
Sometimes I want to escape
Even in my dreams and reality
Riding my grandpa’s bicycle

A ride around town
The world behind me
Passes by so quickly
A ride around my memories
Time passes behind me so quickly
Passes, it all passes

A ride around town
The world behind me
Passes by so quickly
A ride around my memories
Time passes behind me so quickly
Passes, it all passes
