Jeon In-Kwon, original Korean Rock ‘n Roll

jeon inkwon bright Except for the fact that Jeon In-Kwon sang Desperado – one of my favorite songs – on Sketchbook, I might not have paid much attention to his story. The original members of Korea’s legendary rock band Deulgukhwa, Jeon In Kwon (vocals), Choi Sung Won (bass and vocals) and Joo Chan Kwon (drums and vocals, deceased) released an album bearing the group’s name Deulgukhwa in late 2013.  Host Yu Huiyeol interviewed Jeon In-Kwon recently on his show, Sketchbook, which combines music and conversation with the artists. I  was fascinated by In-Kwon’s lonesome rock ‘n roll music Korean style (his band years date back to the 80s). There is little information that one can find about his life on the internet. I imagine his biography would be eventful and intense, but like many aging rockers, he too, appears mellowed and content with the slower, quieter pace that life now offers. I wouldn’t mind writing a biography about his life, although I would need an interpreter, but still, it would be a welcome and satisfying challenge. The first 40-minutes of the show are dedicated to Jeon In-Kwon and can be viewed at:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nLWuIDi3RE

Here’s the link to The Eagles’ original Desperado (written by Glenn Frey and Don Henley), and sung by Linda Ronstadt (my favorite version). It’s one of those songs you never grow tired of hearing.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAK5Ids7l5g
